Press Play on Mayhemic Destruction, Then Tell Us: Worthy Album, Better EP, or Just One Killer Single?
Queue up Mortal Sin’s first full-length, vote on where it lands in the Dig Me Out canon, and leave a comment we can bring into the episode.
Before Mortal Sin, Australia didn’t really have a thrash scene—just hard rock, cock rock, and whatever made it onto late-night TV. Then a group of Sydney guys plugged in, hit record for three days at Studio 301, and unleashed Mayhemic Destruction, a DIY debut that somehow ended up name-checked alongside Metallica, Anthrax, and Testament.
We’re firing up this slab of 1987 mayhem for an upcoming Dig Me Out: 80s Metal episode, and we want you in the pit with us.
Listener and long-time Board Member Gavin R. threw this one into the ring, which already tells you something: this isn’t casual “heard it on classic rock radio” territory. This is the kind of record you find on a beat-up cassette, dubbed twice over, with handwriting so jagged you can’t tell if it says “Mortal Sin” or someone’s D&D campaign.
If the 80s Metal podcast is about anything, it’s figuring out whether these kinds of albums are lost essentials or passionate time capsules that mean more to specific scenes than to the wider canon.
