I grew up in Raleigh. Always thought these guys could’ve been huge with slightly different timing. I’m always a little surprised when i encounter someone who has heard of them, but maybe I shouldn’t be?? I heard a cover of “‘74 - ‘75” at my gym a few months ago and was happily blown away.
Great episode guys. This album contains several great songs and you pretty much highlighted all of the tracks I am thinking about.
From the show:
Tim: "It's got good melodies. It's not necessarily going to blow you away in a way that a *radio band* would. There's no uh, unique, weird hook to this thing. These are just... songs. And, and... pretty well constructed. They sound good. [cough, cough, excuse me] And, nothing gets in the way of anything." "They are no far off from the Gin Blossoms. They just don't have ... that one radio single."
Jay: "They are more sophisticated. Both to the detriment, maybe of um, a big commercial hit like the Gin Blossoms. But also to the benefit for people that like music. 'Oooh. This is a little different... There is more going on here.'"
This observation by the DMO boys is what I would classify as... *the* recipe for long term impression of any music we encounter.
Thank you for this. Connells have been my favorite band since 1989.

Stone Cold Yesterday is an all-timer! That riff sounds as good today as it did on Day 1. Just an incredibly underrated band all around.
