If you’ve been following Guided by Voices, you know Robert Pollard and his crew are nothing if not prolific. Strut of Kings, their 41st (!) album, drops June 28, 2024. It’s their only album of the year, which is a surprise given their usual output. Pollard mentioned that this one is more focused and cohesive, balancing power-pop hooks and their signature experimental twists. The first single, “Serene King,” is already making waves with its catchy, earworm quality—definitely one for longtime fans and new listeners.
Redd Kross - Redd Kross
Redd Kross is back with a bang, celebrating 45 years in the biz with a self-titled double album out on June 28, 2024. Jeff and Steven McDonald started this band as teens in Hawthorne, CA, and they’ve never lost their punk-infused, power-pop charm. The lead single, “Candy Coloured Catastrophe,” is a fun, biting commentary on rock stars moonlighting as fine artists. This album coincides with a documentary and a memoir, comprehensively celebrating their quirky, colorful history.
