Albums of 1993
We revisit and discuss the overlooked, under-appreciated, forgotten, and not so forgotten albums of 1993
By 1993, it was an alternative world, from MTVÂ to mainstream radio. The Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, Counting Crows, Depeche Mode, Radiohead, Tool, and many more became household names with million-selling albums, while college radio and indie labels saw bands take off unexpectedly, with hits from The Breeders, The Lemonheads, Mazzy Star, Juliana Hatfield, Letters to Cleo, Ween, and many more. While pop music maintained its position with the likes of Mariah Carey, Billy Joel, and Duran Duran scoring hits, hip-hop was also ascendant with landmark albums from AÂ Tribe Called Quest, Snoop Doggy Dogg, The Wu-Tang Clan, and more. We dive into it all, talking about records that have stood the test of time and those that haven't, albums overlooked upon their release, and those best left to the dustbin of history. Jellyfish - Spilt Milk
The second and final album by the American power pop band, released in 1993. The album showcases a more ambitious and diverse sound compared to their critically acclaimed debut album "Bellybutton", featuring elements of jangle pop, psychedelic rock, and even influences of progressive rock while still maintaining their signature harmonies and hook-laden songwriting, it's a fitting final curtain to their short but impactful career.
Swervedriver - Mezcal Head
The 1993 album by the British alternative rock band is known for its blending of shoegaze and psychedelic rock elements with strong melodic hooks and heavy use of guitar effects.
The Posies - Frosting on the Beater
The fourth studio album by the American rock band was released in 1993. The album features a mix of power-pop, alternative rock, and indie rock elements, with strong harmonies and melodic hooks. Despite receiving positive reviews, it did not receive the commercial success that it deserved, however, it has since become a cult classic and a shining example of the band's songwriting and musicianship. It's considered by many as a masterpiece that could have easily made them one of the biggest bands in the world if it had received the proper recognition and promotion at the time of its release.

Real music, real connections
Imagine a world where the only music you can hear is made by AI.
Cold, calculated beats that are designed to make you tap your foot or nod your head but lack the soul and emotion that makes music truly powerful. But it's not just the music that's missing, it's the conversations and connections with fellow music fans. The ability to geek out over the details of your favorite albums, to compare notes on live performances, to bond over shared musical interests, would all be gone. There would be no more music trivia, no more debates over who's the best band or singer, no more discovering new music together. The music would be just background noise, something to fill the silence, and with it, the connections and conversations that make music truly special would disappear.
