Union - Union
What happens when former KISS and Motley Crue members make a hard rock record in 1998? We drop the needle on the self-titled debut.
Bruce Kulick, a member of KISSย from 1984 to 1996, and John Corabi, a member of Motley Crue from 1992 to 1997, joined forces to form Union with capable players Jamie Hunting on bass and Brent Fitz on drums. The songwriting style Corabi brought to Motley Crue is evident from the first track, "Old Man Wise," which combines classic hard rock riffs with melodies and vocals that fit well into 90s alternative and grunge as Alice In Chains. What helps make this more than just another album is the small touches - the harmony vocals from all members and clean and unfussy production that serve the songs well. Group 1-3 winners
Willie Dillon: I Mother Earth-Scenery and Fish
The second album from these awesome Canajuns.
Kyle Bittner: Pluto-Pluto
West coast Canadian power pop. ย I think you'll dig it.
Richard Waterman: Sponge - New Pop Sunday
Probably my favourite Sponge album. Expands on Wax Ecstatic and on the Grunge, Alternative Rock theme. Different production and more instruments added to the mix but great song craft. Heavy and Light at the same time. Please don't call this Post-Grunge!!!
Adam Smith: Fu Manchu - King Of The Road
Jeff Gentes: Fig Dish - That's What Love Songs Often Do
Fig Dish has come up several times on the pod, and Jay + Tim even reviewed the Caviar s/t. It's time to take this album on. (Note: I am also considering this for my 12-month review, and yet I am interested to see how it would do in a poll.)
Willie Dillon: Sparklehorse - Vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot
Try saying that five times fast. In my opinion, Sparklehorse's debut album is as strong as any of theirs and is probably my favorite. "Cow" is one of my favorite songs ever.
