Big Wreck releasing singles, Believer, Holy Roller, Around and now Dog with A Gun (actually after the record release), 4 of the 11 tracks, seems to be a middle point as opposed to the actual intention to release all the songs of Pages .1 and The Rest of the Story as three 6 song EP’s. The trategy there was to stretch the album release life cycle over 3 mini cycles, like 2 years. In BW history, since there are so many deep tracks, that are so well crafted, some do not get the attention they deserve, this was a new way to stretch the attention. All the songs were recorded in one 2 week session around July of 23. There was a management change after the release of Pages .1 and the strategy to release was changed.
As far as acceptance of the music regardless of the amended strategy, I have seen nothing but absolute RAVES over the content of TROTS (and I scour the web daily for mentions - how I found your mention). Many considering it to be Ian’s BEST album! There isn’t a cohesive “album” feel because they were intiially designed a 3 distinct collections with types of tracks featured on each. The consesnus of vocal BW fans is to marvel at the ability of a band 30 years in to a career to still challenge the notion of what Big Wreck is and to push those musical boundaries. I suggest you give the “album” 3-5 listens and then re assess! LOL!
I seem to be referring to these three a lot, but here they are…
Coroner - Dissonance Theory
TAUK - Somewhere Between Here And There
Matt Jalbert - Sauce Buffet
Your list is very cool, will have to check out some of those releases!
